Pat Kinsel, a venture capitalist at Polaris Partners, came up with the idea for a mobile notary service after experiencing an inconvenience when he tried to verify a document remotely. His startup, Notarize, will dramatically improve the speediness and convenience of notarization through an app and a $25 fee.
Kinsel’s model is based on the fact that identification can be made online, meaning notaries can verify documents remotely, rather than being predicated on a face-to-face interaction. The Notarize app operates with the help of an e-notary public in Virginia who verifies a customer’s identity and carries out the notarization process for the customer to print or email.
